Richard Tuyiragize (PhD)

Managing Director:

Richard Tuyiragize holds a PhD in Statistical sciences from University of Cape Town, South Africa.  He also has a Master’s, Postgraduate diploma, and Bachelor’s degrees in Statistics from the School of Statistics and Planning, Makerere University, Uganda. He updated his professional skills by earning the postgraduate diploma in monitoring and evaluation certification from the Uganda Management Institute. He is the Managing Director and cofounder of Xynergy Consult Limited, an independent multi-disciplinary research and consultancy firm through which he coordinates national and international assignments, ensuring quality assurance and the delivery of cutting-edge advisory services to governments, civil society organizations, and private sector entities. Richard has consulted widely on research methodology and statistical analysis across the private and public sectors and has collaborated with local and international organizations, including Bodhi Global Analysis (UK), Conflict Management Consulting (Belgium), ADA Consultants (Canada), AfDB, Mariestopes International, UNICEF, UNDP, USAID, and DFID. He is a professional associate with Conflict Management Consulting (Belgium). Richard has over 15 years of experience in consultancy assignment in statistical capacity building, conducting research surveys, impact assessments, monitoring and evaluations, designing and managing M&E/MIS tools (databases, ODK, Kobo Toolbox mobile data collection), data analysis (using STATA, SPSS, and R) and reporting. His expertise include devising appropriate methods for summarizing, interpreting and presenting the data compiled from studies and projects. In addition, ensuring appropriate statistical methodologies are followed for analysis, planning data collection activities, reviewing the quality of collected data for precision and validity of the information collected. He has co-authored and published a number of journal articles.

abel nzabona

Abel NZABONA (PhD)

Senior Research Consultant

Abel NZABONA holds a PhD in Population Studies and a Master of Arts in Demography both from Makerere University and a Certificate in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management Institute. He is a professional demographer with research interests in Migration, Environment, Population Ageing and Population Dynamics. He has taught at Makerere University in the Department of Geography, Geo-informatics and Climatic Sciences (2000-2006) and Department of Population Studies (2006-2021). He has worked with UNDESA, UNECA, UNFPA to analyse the data status of Population Ageing and Population and Development in Africa in general, and Uganda in particular. He has carried out research in various fields and subsequently written several published journal articles and migration-specific book chapters including chapters on internal migration dynamics in Uganda. One of his recent studies is the assessment of youth employment and migration in Uganda conducted under the auspices of IDRC. He is a member of IUSSP, UAPS and UGA. Currently he is a Research Fellow and one of the Instructors of Research and Report Writing skills at the Centre for Basic Research, Kampala Uganda.

john bosco asiimwe

John Bosco ASIIMWE (PhD)

Asiimwe John Bosco holds a PhD in Statistics from Makerere University, Uganda.  He has over 15 years’ experience in design and managing surveys. He worked successfully as a Data Manager with Development Pathways (UK), Chelshire (UK) and SINTEF (Norway) to implement surveys on persons living with disabilities.  He worked as a Statistician on the evaluation of a UN Joint Programme on Population in Uganda funded by UNFPA. He successfully worked as a Data Manager for the HIV/AIDS Model District Programme (AIM) a JSI/USAID supported project from 2003 to 2006.  He also worked as a Principal Investigator (PI) on an impact evaluation study entitled “Working with Village Health Teams to Increase ORS Use in Uganda: A Randomized Controlled Trial”. The University of California Berkeley (UCB) and Weiss Family Program Fund (Harvard University) funded this study. John Bosco is vast with developing applications for data management using Kobocollect and SurveyCTO. He is also vast with data analysis using Stata and SPSS. John Bosco has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journal as an indicator of good report writing skills. A number of these I have been the first author and these include: BMC Public Health and Journal of Public Health Policy. He has been involved in assignments with good acceptable reports.

David Mfitumukiza (PhD)

Mfitumukiza David holds a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources, Master’s degree in Environmental Systems   Analysis and   Management. David is an Associate Professor at Makerere University. He has over 20 years of working experience in Environment and Natural Resources Management. He has worked with universities, transnational and national organizations including FAO, USAID, FHI 360, Global Center on Adaptation, World Bank, among others. He has also worked with local governments including serving as a District Local Government Environment Officer. His professional experience covers over 10 countries. He has been involved in research and community outreach programs as a lead investigator in land use and natural resources assessment, climate change and variability impacts, food security, and environment and natural resources information systems for monitoring, evaluation and learning using remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems.

Mugisha M. Mutabazi (PhD)

Dr. Mugisha M. Mutabazi is a sociologist with a PhD from South Dakota State University, USA. He has worked in the department of Sociology, Anthropology and Population Studies at Kyambogo University for the last 20 years. He specializes in Social Theory, Social Organization, Social Deviance, Urban Sociology, Refugees, and Community Development. He has researched extensively on Urban Transport in Uganda focusing on the burgeoning motorcycle taxi sector; Leadership, Governance and Community Capitals; Health Policy; Gender-Based Violence, Disability; Refugees; and Livelihoods. He is a specialist in livelihoods mapping and livelihoods risk analysis. His research on livelihoods has focused on livelihoods of motorcycle taxi drivers, livelihood risks among fisher folk, and income protection through cash transfers among refugee and host communities. He has worked with, among others, the World Food Program (Refugee livelihoods and Cash transfers), Swansea University (GCRF funded research on motorcycle taxis), UNICEF, and Government of Uganda; and NUDIPU (Disability and Knowledge). Dr. Mugisha has researched on various topics in the field of governance, including health policy implementation under decentralization, incorporation of traditional medicine in formal health care, and community health care financing.

joseph mutyaba

Joseph Mutyaba (Masters)

Designation

Joseph holds a master’s degree in Information Systems from Uganda Technology and Management University and a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Makerere University. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Computing and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Information Management. He is highly skilled in Measurement Reporting and Verification of Forest Conservation Biological data to UNFCCC especially Green House Gas compilation and its quality control requirements. He has several years of hands-on experience in spatial data/base manipulation and analysis on both desktop and cloud computing platforms using open-source tools like Linux bash tools, R, MySQL and PostgreSQL. He is utilizing these transferrable skills in Drought and Flood forecasting in Pro – Resilience Action project for Karamoja under the Department of Disaster Risk Management in the Office of the Prime Minister. He worked with Uganda Bureau of Statistics (2001 to 2004) and National Forestry Authority (2005 to 2017). He was key in the generation of activity spatial data that was used in the construction of Forest Reference Emission Levels for Uganda. He was previously a Research Assistant with the Foot and Mouth Disease, Uganda Virus Research Institute as well as a part time GIS and Remote Sensing Lecturer at UTAMU.
